Gone too soon

Our community (Cardiac Anaesthesiologists) sadly lost a pillar when Prof. Vishwas Malik, aged 49 years passed away at Kokilaben Hospital, Mumbai on 8th August 2022 after a massive heart attack. Prof. Vishwas Malik was born on 22nd September 1973. He did his DM Cardiac Anaesthesia degree from AIIMS, New Delhi and joined as assistant Professor Cardiac Anaesthesia on January 9th 2006. He became a Professor on July 1st 2016. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. He was a very quiet and humble person. He was an avid clinician, researcher and a good human being above all. An educator until the end, Prof, Vishwas was sure to leave a lifetime’s worth of knowledge in the form of many lectures and conversations with anyone who had the time. Prof. Malik thrived on the discussion of ideas both as an individual and as a professional, enthralled with his chosen career path of being a teacher. Prof. Vishwas spent much of his time dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and the assistance of others who were in the same pursuit. He influenced the lives of so many and was loved and adored by all his students who reached out to him over the years, long after they had graduated and left the program. He was a member of the Society of Trans-oesophageal Echocardiography (STE). He was a faculty for the workshops with very frequent participation in our TEEPGI annual workshops. His moto in life was, yatha Drishti, tatha Srishti, the world is the way you see it. His legacy will live in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with as well as those he reached but never met.
